"My areas of expertise are molecular biology and biochemistry, with an emphasis on cellular signaling in various contexts, particularly aging, neuron function, neurodegeneration and nutrition. Before joining RSC, I studied neuronal aging using Caenorhabditis elegans as my model organism, and I have experience writing and contributing to grant applications submitted to NIH and various regional societies and funding agencies in the US. "I received a PhD from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston under the guidance of Ambro van Hoof where I studied RNA turnover in yeast. After receiving my PhD, I expanded my knowledge on RNA expression regulation in human cell lines through my postdoctoral work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill under William Marzluff. During this time, I also became an adjunct professor at Elon University and at UNC-CH and began mentoring students in the lab. This is when I first discovered my love for explaining science in a way that non- or early scientists could understand. I first joined Research Square as a language editor in 2013 but found my real calling when I became an Animator on the Multimedia team. In 2018, I was promoted to Production Lead of the Multimedia team where I am responsible for overseeing the service."

"After graduating from Roger Williams University with a B.S. in Biology and and B.A. in Chemistry, I began working at Brown University studying nanotoxicology under Dr. Agnes Kane. It was at Brown University that I first became interested in epigenetics. After working as a research assistant for two years, I realized that I wanted to extend my education and applied to several doctoral programs focusing on epigentics and cell biology. I chose to continue my studies at Brown and, while there, I was lucky to collaborate with UCSF to research the correlation between genetic and epigenetic patterns in human glioma. Our goal was to identify methylation profiles in brain tumors and associate these patterns with histology, outcome, and immune response. I received my PhD from Brown in 2013."

"My areas of expertise are species distribution modeling and plant ecology, with a focus on spatial and temporal changes in native and invasive plant distributions in response to climate change using various GIS and remote sensing approaches to analyze large datasets and satellite image time series. I funded this work with a NASA Earth and Space Science fellowship and served on a committee providing peer review and editing services for grant applications. In my current position, I work on reviewing grant applications, and as a Scientific Editor, I use my experience in research and communication to help authors clearly present the novelty and importance of their research."
